Studio27 McLaren Senna XP Dress Up British No.8 1:24 is a sheet of waterslide decals for the McLaren Senna plastic model from Tamiya, with the motifs of the British flag and race number 8. It is not a kit — these are the markings alone.

Careful — this is not a kit. You are buying a sheet of waterslide decals in 1:24 scale from Studio27 for the McLaren Senna plastic model from Tamiya; the car model itself is not in the package and you have to have it separately. The sheet brings to the model the livery of the Senna XP special with the motifs of the British flag (blue, red, white), including the large flag on the rear wing and race number 8. The second version in the same range is the Monaco sheet in red and white with number 12 — the cars are the same, the livery different; when ordering, keep an eye on which of them you want (or take both).
The McLaren Senna is a tribute to Ayrton Senna, three-time Formula 1 world champion and to this day one of the most admired drivers in history; he was killed in a race in 1994. The car is deliberately extreme — the shape was not created for beauty but for downforce: a huge wing, intake openings, vents wherever the aerodynamics ask for them. XP is the designation of McLaren prototype, that is experimental, cars; several such Sennas became extraordinary hand-finished machines recalling particular moments of Senna's career. The British version with number 8 refers to 1993, when Senna raced with number 8 and, in a wet race at the British circuit of Donington Park, worked his way into the lead during the opening lap alone — a drive that is still talked about today.
The kit gives the shape. The graphics, the lettering and the numbers it does not — they are either missing or only suggested in the plastic. And they are the first thing you notice at the display cabinet. A sheet of decals therefore moves the model forward markedly with very little work: even a modeler without much experience can handle it. Do not expect a carbon fiber imitation here — Studio27 sells that in a separate carbon range.
They are applied strictly onto a glossy, cured clear coat. A matte or satin surface causes silvering — a gray haze appears around the decal, which on the large flag on the wing spoils the whole effect. The body of the Senna is one big curved surface with edges, so you cannot do without a decal softener: the film then sucks down without folds. Once dry comes the clear varnish and polishing with compound — on a road supercar the depth of the gloss is the main thing, the model should look as if it had just rolled out of the showroom, and the edge of the decal disappears completely. For the small lettering take tweezers and allow time; the pieces are tiny and want a steady hand.
This is a decal sheet, not a kit. The car model, the paints, the varnishes, the decal softener and the polishing compound are not included in the package.
