This product is a decal sheet from Studio27 in 1:20 scale, intended for the Tamiya Fiat 131 Abarth Rally plastic kit. It is not a kit: you are not buying a model, only the markings — there are no plastic parts in the package and the basic kit has to be obtained separately. The 1:20 scale is unusual for a rally car, but it is right for this subject — Tamiya really does release the Fiat 131 Abarth in that scale.
The Fiat 131 Abarth shows what a workshop can do with an ordinary car. Out of an everyday family sedan Abarth made a world champion: the car took three world rally championship titles for manufacturers, in 1977, 1978 and 1980. The Tour de Corse, the Corsican rally nicknamed the rally of ten thousand corners, is one of the most demanding asphalt events in the world: endless hairpins above the sea, narrow mountain roads and hundreds of kilometers without a break, where the brakes, the tires and the crew's neck muscles give up sooner than the engine. In 1977 the Fiat 131 Abarth won there and contributed to the car's first title.
The surface must be glossy — on a matte clear coat the edges of the decals turn silver, and on a white rally body with large sponsor areas that ruins the effect. On the fenders, the edges of the hood and around the arches use a decal softener so that the marking settles without folds. And then comes the main thing: a rally car is not supposed to be clean. First, though, the clear varnish that seals and protects the decals — and only then the weathering: dust pigments on the lower areas, a wash into the panel lines, mud in the wheel arches and wiped streaks on the glass and the lights. The other order would remove the decals together with the weathering.
This is a set of decals, not a kit. The model, the paints, the glue, the decal softener, the varnishes and the weathering products are not included in the package.
