Let us make it clear right away: you are buying decals, not a kit. The sheet from Studio27 is designed for the body of the Nissan Fairlady 240Z 1:24 kit from Tamiya — without it there is nowhere to apply it. On one sheet you get the markings for TWO cars, No. 3 and No. 46, which is a pleasant choice: you build the one you like better and the other stays in reserve.
BRE stands for Brock Racing Enterprises, the American racing team of Peter Brock. It was he who turned a modest Japanese coupe into a weapon: the Datsun 240Z in BRE colors — a white body with a red and a blue stripe — became an icon of American racing in the 1970s. In the SCCA series the BRE cars kept winning, and with driver John Morton they took the national titles in the C Production class in 1970 and 1971. The significance goes beyond the results sheet: a Japanese car beat the established European competition on its own ground, and in America Datsun suddenly stopped being seen as a cut-rate alternative. One more specific point that tends to confuse: Fairlady Z and 240Z are the same car — it was sold in Japan under the name Fairlady Z and on the western markets as the 240Z.
Stripes running across the whole flank are beautiful and unforgiving — every mistake lies in a single line. Therefore: apply them only onto a GLOSS clear coat. A matte surface is the quickest route to silvering, where air stays under the carrier film and the decal turns gray. The right order: white body, gloss clear coat, decals, clear varnish, polishing to a deep gloss (the 240Z was a circuit car, not a rally car). For the curves of the fenders and the transitions onto the hood prepare a decal softener, otherwise the stripe will crack or lift on an edge. And watch the shade: the sheet does not cover the whole surface, the base white and the additional colors are sprayed by you — if the shade does not match, the join between the paint and the decal will show across the whole car.
This is a separate decal sheet. The kit, the paints, the varnishes and the softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
