It is a kit – but a resin one, not a plastic one. Studio27 lists it as a Multimedia Kit, that is a combination of resin, white metal, photo-etched brass sheet, rubber tires and decals. This box is unambiguously the version from the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2011, specifically the car with race number 22. Do not mix it up with the sister kit of the same car in the ALMS 2011 finish (the American series) – a different race, a different livery, different decals.
The Lola-Aston Martin is an LMP1 class prototype: a chassis from the British constructor Lola, a naturally aspirated V12 and the brand from Aston Martin. Aston Martin is one of the icons of Le Mans – it took an outright win in that race in 1959. Car No. 22 started in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2011 as a Belgian entry and finished inside the overall top ten; the crew was made up of Vanina Ickx, Bas Leinders and Maxime Martin. Le Mans is the endurance classic on the Circuit de la Sarthe – 24 hours, long straights, night driving.
Before you reach for the paint, wash the parts. Mold release agent stays in resin castings; if you do not wash it off with warm water, detergent and a brush, the paint will not grip and will peel. This is the most common cause of a ruined resin model – do not skip it. Next: resin cannot be glued with plastic cement, only with cyanoacrylate. The casting blocks are cut off with a saw, not with nippers. The parts have no pins or sockets, so dry fit, sand and fit them together. Resin dust is harmful to health – sand strictly wet and with a respirator. Finally primer, a gloss clear coat under the decals and photo-etched parts bent with a bender.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
