The McLaren MP4/4 is the Formula 1 car of the 1988 season and one of the most successful machines in the history of the series: of sixteen Grands Prix it won fifteen. Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost took turns behind the wheel. The year 1988 was at the same time the last season of turbocharged engines in Formula 1, and the MP4/4 with its turbocharged Honda engine is remembered above all for its exceptionally low, flat silhouette.

The brakes belong to the chassis stage, that is before the wheels are fitted; once the car is closed up you will not get to the brakes any more. Try the fit dry, therefore, and check that the disc sits on the axis of the hub and that the wheel does not rub anywhere once fitted. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. A dark graphite shade suits the discs, while the caliper is set apart from them by a different metallic tone; a light highlighting of the edges will bring the shape out. A matte varnish will unify the surface at the end.
The set is intended for builders of the MP4/4 in 1:20 scale who want more in the wheels than the simplified part from the box. In a large scale you can see well into the wheels and the brakes are among the first things a viewer notices. It pays to have it at hand before the build reaches the chassis.
