A set in 1:24 scale from the maker Studio27. It is NOT a kit and not a model – it is a set of additional parts for the Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31) kit from Hasegawa, which you already have to own. It holds photo-etched parts and material for realistic seat belts.
The Skyline GTS-R is the direct predecessor of the legendary GT-R of the R32 generation – the car known as Godzilla. It came about as a homologation special for Group A and only a few hundred were built. Under the hood it had a turbocharged inline six, but unlike the later R32 all the power went to the rear wheels only – Nissan had not yet introduced all-wheel drive. It was precisely the experience and the limits of a rear-wheel-drive car in Group A racing that were one of the reasons why Nissan went on to build the R32 armed with all-wheel drive. The GTS-R is therefore the car the maker learned from – and for a collector an indispensable link if they want the whole development line of the Skyline together.
Plastic cannot do a thin edge or a real mesh – a molded grille is only a suggested engraving and a solid pancake, whereas a photo-etched part is thin and you can see through it. On a racing car the interior is in plain sight as well: the cage, the seat and the seat belts. A combination of fabric webbing and photo-etched buckles looks like a real belt; a plastic dummy kills the impression. The difference is visible immediately, and in photographs of the model even more so.
Photo-etched sheet is bent (a bender pays off) and glued with cyanoacrylate glue, not with cement for plastic. The original plastic detail often has to be sanded away first – that is an irreversible step, so think first and sand afterwards. It calls for tweezers, a sharp scalpel, a magnifier and patience: the set is for more experienced modelers. If you are building the whole line, Studio27 also makes a detail set for the Group A GT-R BNR32.
This is not a kit but an addition. The basic model, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
