A set in 1:24 scale from the maker Studio27. It is NOT a kit and not a model – it is a set of additional parts for the Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR32 Group A kit from Hasegawa, which you already have to own. It holds photo-etched parts and material for realistic seat belts.
The nickname Godzilla was given to the GT-R of the R32 generation by Australian journalists – in the touring car championship there the car was so crushingly dominant that it literally trampled its rivals. In Australia it took the title three seasons in a row and also won the famous race at Bathurst. In the Japanese Group A championship it was even more brutal: it won all 29 races it entered and took the title four times in succession. The dominance was so complete that it contributed to the end of the whole Group A category – against a car that could not be beaten on the track, the rules were changed in the end. The production GT-R had the recipe for it: twin turbos, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering. This is not just a model of a car, this is a model of a catastrophe.
Plastic cannot do a thin edge or a real mesh – a molded mesh is only a suggested engraving and a solid pancake, whereas a photo-etched part is thin and you can see through it, so the openings in front of the radiators look like real ones. On a racing car the interior is in plain sight as well: the roll cage, the seat and above all the seat belts – fabric webbing with photo-etched buckles looks like a real belt, while a plastic dummy kills the impression.
Photo-etched sheet is bent (a bender pays off) and glued with cyanoacrylate glue, not with cement for plastic. The original plastic detail often has to be sanded away, which is an irreversible step. It calls for tweezers, a sharp scalpel, a magnifier and patience – the set is for more experienced modelers. Anyone who wants the whole development line will find that Studio27 also makes a detail set for its predecessor, the Skyline GTS-R (R31).
This is not a kit but an addition. The basic model, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
