A turned metal gun barrel of 122 mm caliber for the Soviet D-30 howitzer in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Aber. This is not a model but a detail part for a kit — an accurate replacement for the plastic barrel of the howitzer. The barrel can also be used on a model of the Syrian T-34 converted to the D-30 gun. It is made for the Trumpeter and RFM kits; the model itself is not included in the package and you have to have it.
The plastic barrel from the box is usually glued from two halves, so a lengthwise seam is left on it and it easily bends or is not exactly concentric. A turned metal gun barrel is perfectly straight, concentric and has a sharply machined, hollow muzzle. On the long, slender barrel of a howitzer this difference shows at first glance — metal holds the straight shape that plastic keeps only with difficulty, and it is the most conspicuous feature of the whole gun in view.
Cut the plastic barrel off and seat the metal one in its place. Metal is best bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the surface and apply a primer suitable for metal; after that you paint it just like the rest of the model.
This is a standalone metal part (a barrel), not a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
