This is a 3D-printed detail set of the crew stations, not a stand-alone model. The set from Litaki replaces and completes the cockpit of the plastic kit of the Convair B-58 Hustler bomber from Italeri in 1:72 scale. This variant matches the early form of the machine with conventional ejection seats (SAC) - as opposed to the later version with escape capsules. The faithfully rendered stations of the three-man crew bring considerably finer detail than the molded plastic from the box offers. You have to own the base kit - this set only improves it.
The Convair B-58 Hustler was an American supersonic strategic bomber of the Cold War period, the first of its kind able to fly at twice the speed of sound. You will recognize it by its slender fuselage, the delta wing and the massive external pod. The crew was made up of three men - the pilot, the navigator and the defensive systems operator - seated in separate cockpits one behind another. Early machines used conventional ejection seats, and only later ones received enclosed escape capsules.
Separate the 3D-printed parts carefully from the support structures with a sharp knife or a fine saw and clean the cut faces up. They are glued exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) - cement for plastic will not hold on these parts. Wash and degrease the parts before gluing and painting, so that the primer holds well. The fine cockpit detail comes out well when painted with shades laid down by airbrush and picked out with a dark wash.
