A replacement R-1340 radial engine for a model of the Boeing F4B-4 carrier biplane in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Pratt and Whitney R-1340 Wasp is an air-cooled nine-cylinder radial, one of the most widespread American aircraft engines of the interwar period. Among other machines it powered the Boeing F4B-4 carrier fighter biplane, the last production version of this family, which the US Navy flew in the first half of the 1930s.
A replacement R-1340 engine for a model of the F4B-4 in 1:48 scale. It is fitted in place of the part from the kit. On a biplane with an exposed engine this is one of the most closely watched details, because one can see between the cylinders right into the nose.
The parts are not of polystyrene and glue for plastic does not hold on them; use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it. Paint it separately while it is still loose in the hand: the cylinders in a dark metallic shade, the edges of the fins lightly gone over with a drybrush and the crankcase set apart in a lighter tone. A fine blackening of the cylinder heads at the end will give the engine depth. Glue it into the model only at the close of the build.
The set is for modelers who do not want to leave the engine of a biplane as it came out of the kit and have the patience for painting small parts. Even a moderately experienced builder who has worked with cyanoacrylate glue before will manage it.
Paints, glue and modeling tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
