HEKI mikroflor, dark green, 28 by 14 cm

A foliage mat from the German maker HEKI from the mikroflor line of a size of twenty-eight by fourteen centimeters. The small grain of the finest grade of foliage merges on a model into a continuous area of leaves, so even a dark crown looks like leaves and not like a piece of colored foam. In growth, dark green fulfills the role of shadow: it gives depth where a lighter shade would flatten an area.

Use

• the inner and lower parts of the crowns of deciduous trees
• dark bushes and thickets by water and on northern slopes
• greenery in shaded ravines and between buildings
• a base onto which lighter foliage is laid on top

How to work with the mat

Tear a piece off and stretch it until irregular gaps come about in it, then lay it on the armature and fix it with sparing drops of cyanoacrylate or white glue. Do not use the dark shade on a whole tree on its own, for the crown then merges into one mass. Layer it: the dark one inside and low down, the lighter one on top. With bushes and thickets the dark variant stands up on its own as well, because there the depth comes from the shape, not from the color.

Who the mat is for

For modelers who work with light and shadow in growth, and for builders of scenes with dense vegetation. Dark foliage also suits places where greenery is only meant to cover the structure of a layout, because in shadow the eye notices it least. This is a modeling material, not a toy. The maker marks its landscaping goods as not suitable for children under fifteen years of age.
