A grass mat from the German maker HEKI in the kreativ line, measuring forty-five by seventeen centimeters. The fibers are applied to a practically invisible backing, so the mat tears into irregular pieces and the edge disappears in the landscape. The savannah tone is dry, yellow-brown and parched, so the mat places a scene unambiguously in a hot setting, whether that is southern Europe, Africa or simply the end of summer in Central Europe.
Apply spray adhesive to a new base and press the mat down; on an area already grassed the fibers hold even without glue. In dry country it pays to leave part of the base uncovered: a parched area is not continuously overgrown but alternates growth with bare soil, dust and stones. It is precisely that ratio, more than the color of the grass itself, that decides whether a scene looks dry.
For builders of dry and southern scenes, of military dioramas, and for modelers who want to distinguish parched ground from a green meadow. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
