A decal sheet in 1:48 scale aimed at the fighter-bomber Sea Fury in the FB.11 version in the service of air forces outside Britain. These are supplementary markings that turn a model into the machine of a particular overseas operator. The model of the airplane and paints are not in the package.
The Hawker Sea Fury is among the peaks of piston fighter development. It came about at the very end of the era, when jets were already coming in, and it combined an exceptionally powerful radial engine with an aerodynamically clean airframe. The FB.11 version was the fighter-bomber form intended for carrier operations, with folding wings, an arrestor hook and the ability to carry bombs and rockets. It was precisely its performance and toughness that made the type find its way to a number of overseas users, with whom it stayed in service long after jets had replaced it at home.
The Sea Fury is a large airplane even in 1:48 scale, and its dark schemes tend to be glossy. On a glossy surface every imperfect trim of a decal is visible, so cut close and preferably under a magnifier. Soak briefly, let the decal rest on its paper and slide it onto a moistened area. With stripes and wide insignia work from the center toward the edges, so that both water and air are squeezed out. Do the propeller and the striped blades at the very end, because they are awkward to handle. Once dry, seal with a clear coat matching the gloss of the scheme.
