Italian Job — the Macchi C.202 and C.205 in international service, 1:48 is a Tiger Head Models decal sheet for Italian fighters with overseas users. It is not a kit, but supplementary markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet in 1:48 scale devoted to the Italian fighters Macchi C.202 and C.205 in service outside their home air force. The package contains markings that turn a model into the machine of a particular overseas operator; the kit itself has to be obtained separately.
The Macchi C.202 came about by joining an Italian airframe with a license-built V engine of German origin and it meant a fundamental step forward for the Italian fighter arm — against the preceding machines with a radial engine it offered far cleaner aerodynamics and better performance at altitude. The following C.205 took the concept further still with a more powerful engine and heavier armament and is counted among the best Italian fighters of its day. Both types also went outside their original air force and some machines served even after the war, which opens up interesting color schemes for a modeler, different from the usual Italian camouflage.
The Macchis have a slim, long fuselage with a pronounced fairing at the cockpit — apply decals across it in parts. The base under the markings must be glossy and cured; Italian camouflage tends to be mottled and on a surface sprayed with texture a decal silvers easily. Polishing the spot under an insignia locally and only then varnishing it proves itself. Dose the decal softener drop by drop and let it work; with thin films a little is enough. Once dry, seal the model and only then shade the panel lines, so that the decal does not let its edges go.
The package contains decals only. The kit and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
