The T-6 Texan, known in British service as the Harvard, is among the most widespread trainers in history. Its career in advanced training lasted decades and the machines reached the air forces of dozens of countries, including those in tropical and desert belts. It was there that they received finishes and markings that differ markedly from the standard American and British schemes — from warning yellow and orange areas to all-metal surfaces with bold numbers. For a modeler the Texan is a rewarding subject: a large, easily read airframe on which decals really come out.
Trainers often wore a glossy or semi-gloss finish, so decals on them have to fit in perfectly — the slightest border of carrier film is visible on gloss. It pays to trim the film close, apply the decal onto a moistened area and push the water from the center toward the edges with a fine brush. With large numerals on the fuselage we recommend trying them dry first against a printed copy, so that the spacing sits right. Choose the final clear coat according to the real surface of the subject, not automatically a matte one.
