The sheet contains printed decals of national insignia crosses in 1:48 scale in the form matching the early period of the Second World War, sized for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters. The package does not contain plastic parts — it is an accessory to a kit that the modeler buys separately. The manufacturer is the Turkish brand Tiger Head Models.
The early form of the national insignia crosses had markedly wider light fields and looked far more contrasting on an airframe than the later simplified variants. The difference is immediately apparent on a model and it tends to be one of the first details an experienced eye registers at an exhibition. The decals supplied with kits, meanwhile, often cover only one period, or have the proportions of the fields wrong. A separate sheet gives a modeler the chance to reach for the form that really matches the machine and the period being built, and at the same time to have a reserve in case a decal is damaged during application.
The wide white fields of the early crosses are prone to showing through, especially on dark camouflage. Before applying, hold the decal up to the light and judge the coverage; if need be, spray a white patch in the shape of the motif underneath it, or double the decal up. The surface must be glossy and free of sanding dust. After applying, soak the water up with paper by laying it on, never by wiping across, so that the motif does not shift.
This is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
