A New Ware masking set in the BASIC extent of kabuki tape for a model of the General Dynamics F-111 combat aircraft in 1:72 scale. The die-cut parts replace the laborious masking of the glazing and the wheels.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains pre-cut masks of kabuki tape for a model of the American General Dynamics F-111 combat aircraft in 1:72 scale, including its electronic warfare version. The BASIC designation expresses the extent of the set: the entry level deals with the main cockpit glazing and the wheels, that is, what always has to be masked and what takes the most patience by hand.
The F-111 is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and two crew members seated side by side. That layout is exactly what makes its cockpit unusual in shape: the glazing is wide and its frames run differently from those of ordinary tandem cockpits. The version intended for electronic warfare differs from the basic rendering above all in equipment, but the shape of the cockpit stays the same.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small, so have fine-tipped tweezers and good light ready. Degrease the glazing first. Lay the mask on, press it down with a toothpick around the edge and cover the free inner area with a strip of tape. Spray the paint thinly, because in a small scale a heavy coat quickly fills the engraving and thickens the frame. Remove it shortly after drying, pulling at a shallow angle. Keep the rest of the sheet for wheels or for small jobs on other models.
The set serves for masking during painting. It does not contain the model, paints or glue.
