A set of four light bomb racks of the Royal Air Force from the interwar period and from the Second World War, 1:48 scale. Printed parts with finely rendered structure.
Responsibility details are not available.
Light bomb racks were an absolute matter of course in the Royal Air Force from the 1920s right into the Second World War. Small bombs weighing around twenty pounds were hung on them, that is munitions meant for harassing ground targets, for practice drops and for the work of colonial squadrons. That is exactly why the same carrier appears on machines separated by fifteen years of development: on biplanes from the late 1920s as well as on liaison and observation aircraft from the beginning of the war.
In the package you will find four pieces, which covers the usual arrangement of one aircraft with some to spare. The parts are printed, so a thin supporting structure with openings and attachments is left on them, which an injection mold would have to replace with a solid body. The wide span of time over which they were used makes them a universal accessory to keep in reserve, because they suit several models under way at once.
The recommended procedure is simple: leave the parts on the supports, spray the base coat, and only then take them off and paint the cut faces in. Before gluing, check the position on the lower surface of the wing against period photographs or a drawing, because the placement differs from machine to machine. The 1:48 scale corresponds to the usual size of British interwar aircraft in plastic.
Let us add a note on the choice of bombs. The munitions hung on this type of carrier were so widespread that they can be supplied from various sources, and for a striking scene an incomplete load is often more interesting than a full one. An empty place in the row tells of a flight that has already happened.
