An ejection seat for the French Jaguar in 1:48 scale, prepared for kits from Airfix.
Responsibility details are not available.
The French Air Force took the Jaguar into service first of the two partners in the joint program and deployed it far more variously than was originally expected. The single-seat strike version designated with the letter A and the two-seat trainer with the letter E flew over Chad and Mauritania, took part in operations in Africa throughout the 1980s, went through the Gulf War, and their service ended only in the mid-2000s. Few European combat aircraft of that time have as many real combat sorties behind them.
Although the airframe was practically identical in both countries, the inside of the cockpit differed according to who had ordered the machine, and that applied to the ejection seat as well. A modeler building a French example therefore cannot use the British version without thinking, unless he wants the cockpit to start looking alien. It is exactly this difference that the item addresses.
The accessory is intended for kits from Airfix and is fitted into the cockpit tub before the fuselage is closed up. It pays at that moment to think through the color scheme of the interior at the same time, because French and British cockpits do not match in shade either, and once they are glued it is no longer easy to get at it.
French machines had the inside of the cockpit toned differently from the British ones, and the difference is apparent on the seat itself, above all on the upholstery and the straps. It is therefore recommended to reach for a photograph of the particular aircraft you want to build and to match the shades against it before the part disappears under the canopy. Once the fuselage is glued, putting it right is practically impossible.
