A pair of Martin-Baker H7 ejection seats for American naval Phantoms in 1:48 scale. The parts are produced by 3D printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Martin-Baker H7 ejection seat belonged in the cockpits of American naval Phantoms. On a finished model it is one of the most closely watched elements: the cockpit tends to be open, the seat takes up a large area in it and carries a great many small things, from the straps and buckles through the survival equipment to the conspicuous firing handles. It is exactly on those that it shows whether a cockpit has depth, or whether it has stayed at a rough shape.
There are two seats in the package, that is a set for a two-seat cockpit. The 1:48 scale will bear the fine breakdown that usually does not fit into a part from a kit: thin edges of the shell, separated straps and a modeled surface of the upholstery. The set is intended for models of the Phantom in this scale; before gluing, seat the seat dry and adjust the seating surface in the cockpit tub if necessary.
The parts are produced by 3D printing, so thin print supports hold them. Snip these off a little away from the part, trim the remainder carefully and sand the pad; on thin edges work in small steps. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, so that no residue of printing resin is left on the surface and the paint holds. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply the paint in thin layers, set the straps and the upholstery apart by shade and by sheen, bring out the hollows with a dark wash and the edges with a light dry brush. Check the color differentiation of the handles and loops against photographs of the version you are building.
The set is for modelers who build the Phantom with an open cockpit and want the seats at the level of the rest of the model. Paints and glue are not part of this set, unless stated otherwise.
