Replacement exhausts for the Westland Wessex HC.2 helicopter in 1:72 scale, intended for Airfix kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
An exhaust is among the parts on which the level of a model shows fastest in a small scale. The mouth should be hollow and thin-walled, but it is exactly a thin wall that is hard to produce on a part from a kit, so the opening tends to be only suggested or entirely solid. The replacement part removes this weakness: the mouth is open, the wall stays thin in scale and the depth of the exhaust gives the model a shadow that the eye immediately reads as a real opening.
The set is cut for Airfix kits in 1:72 scale and corresponds to the Wessex HC.2 variant, that is the transport version of the British helicopter. The arrangement of the exhausts differs between individual versions of the Wessex, which is why the set is tied to this variant; on a model of other origin, check before gluing how the parts will seat on the fuselage.
Cut the original parts off and level the area on the fuselage, so that the replacement seats without a gap. Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down; at the thin mouth work carefully so as not to crush it. The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue; wash and degrease them before gluing and painting. A rewarding color transition runs from dark metal to a burnt shade nearer the mouth, complemented by soot inside and a fine haze on the skin in the direction of the flow.
The set is for modelers who build the Wessex in 1:72 scale and want the exhausts hollow and true to the real subject without laborious drilling. Paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
