The Su-27 is a heavy twin-engine fighter with a cockpit set high above the ground. Neither the pilot nor the ground crew can reach it without steps, so a set stood at the machine on the flight line every time somebody climbed in or something was being prepared inside. It is details of exactly this kind that separate a model on a bare base from a view in which you can tell what is happening at the aircraft.

The etching is supplied as a flat fret from which the parts are snapped out and bent to shape; the thin wall of the parts is its main advantage, because the steps and the handrails come out far finer in scale than a plastic part from a kit.
