A plastic kit of the F/A-18C Hornet carrier combat aircraft in 1:48 scale with VFC-12 markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18C Hornet is a twin-engine carrier aircraft that handles both combat against an aerial target and an attack on a ground target. The rugged landing gear, the tailhook and the folding wingtips give away that it is built for operation from an aircraft carrier, where every meter of deck is precious. The VFC-12 designation in the name refers to a particular US Navy squadron; what insignia and lettering for it the package carries is given in the instructions.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. On an aircraft of this size it pays to plan the sequence in advance: first the cockpit and the wheel bays, and only then joining the fuselage, because the inner spaces cannot be reached later. Leave the external stores, the folding surfaces and the clear canopy until the end, so that the model is easy to hold and nothing breaks off. It pays to mask the canopy as soon as you have seated it, because a sanded clear surface polishes badly and the mark stays visible.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry. Apply the gray camouflage in thin coats and lighten the middle of the large areas slightly; a uniform coat looks flat on a model. Emphasis on the panel lines belongs on a gloss coat; on a flat surface it bleeds sideways. Seat the decals on a gloss surface as well and finally even the model out with a flat coat, which levels out any mismatched sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and accessories are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
