A set of unpainted figures of Macedonian elite infantry in 1:72 scale. The hypaspists were a picked body that in Alexander's army held the place between the heavy phalanx and the cavalry. The figures in this range are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation. That is not a flaw but a property of the material, and it is enough to allow for it beforehand.
The name hypaspists means shield bearers. They were infantry more mobile and more lightly armed than the phalanx with its long pikes, and in the line they stood precisely on its right wing in order to keep contact with the attacking cavalry. It was in that place that Alexander's battles were decided: the phalanx pinned the enemy center, the cavalry struck from the flank and the hypaspists held the gap between them.
First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics, or the paint will crack once dry. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). It pays to spend separate time on the shields: in ancient armies they carried devices and patterns that give a unit both color and recognizability on the table.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
