1:32 French Infantry Carabiniers

HäT 1:32 - carabiniers of the French light infantry

A set of unpainted figures of carabiniers, that is, the elite company of the French light infantry of the Napoleonic age, in 1:32 scale. The large scale gives a figure room for painting work that cannot be managed in 1:72. The figures are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation. That is not a flaw but a property of the material to allow for beforehand.

The real subject

A French light infantry battalion was divided into chasseur, voltigeur and carabinier companies. The carabiniers were its elite company, the counterpart of the grenadiers in the line infantry, and were set apart by red trim on their equipment and by a plume. Beware of a confusion: the same name was also borne by the carabiniers, a regiment of heavy cavalry that had nothing to do with the infantry and wore a cuirass and a helmet.

Building and painting tips

First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Build the red trim over a light base, or the shade will go dark. In a large scale it pays to add small things such as buttons and buckles as well.

Who the figures are for

• For collectors of the Napoleonic period in a large scale.
• For painters who want a figure with room for detail.
• For adding to French light infantry already built.

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
