1:32 Confederate Infantry in Butternut Uniforms Marching Set 1 - 18 figures is a set of eighteen figures of Southern infantry in home-dyed uniforms.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of eighteen unpainted figures of Confederate infantry in a marching pose, in 1:32 scale. This variant is aimed at soldiers dressed in home-dyed cloth, that is, in the shade known as butternut. This is the first of two sets, which complement each other. The figures are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation.
When the South ran out of dyes for the prescribed gray, uniforms began to be dyed with home-made preparations from walnut husks and bark. The result was a yellow-brown to ocher shade called butternut after the tree. It came out differently in every household, so units were made up of men in dozens of different tones. It is this look that is more typical of the late war in the South than the regulation uniform gray.
First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Mix the shade across a range from ocher to brown-gray and vary it markedly between the figures; with this variant the lack of uniformity is the main distinguishing feature.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
