1:32 Confederate Infantry in Butternut Uniforms Marching Set 2 - 18 figures is the second set of eighteen figures of Southern infantry in home-dyed uniforms.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of eighteen unpainted figures of Confederate infantry in a marching pose, in 1:32 scale. This variant is aimed at soldiers dressed in home-dyed cloth in the shade known as butternut. This is the second of two sets, which complement each other, so joining both gives a column without obviously repeating poses. The figures are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation.
Home-dyed uniforms were more common in the South in the second half of the war than the prescribed gray. The dye from walnut husks and bark gave a yellow-brown tone which moreover faded quickly in the sun, so one soldier could have a coat and trousers in different shades. To that were added patches and pieces of captured equipment. The resulting look tells far more on a diorama than a uniform force.
First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Mix the shade across a range from ocher to brown-gray, with the coat and the trousers in different tones if you like, and add patches and faded areas.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
