Injection-molded plastic kit of the classic American four-engine Douglas DC-7C airliner in 1:144 scale from Roden, this time with decals for the Dutch carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. What sets it apart from the variant in American colors is therefore the livery and the markings; the plastic kit itself remains just as good, with finely engraved lines, radial engines and multi-part propellers. The small 1:144 scale turns even a large aircraft into a compact piece for the collection.
The Douglas DC-7C, nicknamed the Seven Seas, was the peak of Douglas piston airliner development. Four powerful radial engines and an extended wing gave it the range that for the first time allowed reliable non-stop transatlantic flights. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was one of its European operators and put it on long-haul routes in the second half of the 1950s, just before the jet era arrived.
Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Take care to clean the joints of the long fuselage up smoothly; on an airliner a clean surface is the key. Paint the multi-part propellers and the engines separately. For natural metal finish areas, metallic paints over a smooth, polished base work well; apply the KLM decals over a gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
