An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese air-cushion landing craft (Landing Craft Air Cushion) in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. The model has a split main deck with a lower section, a flexible skirt around the hull and fine details of the superstructures and the propulsion fans. The box also contains photo-etched parts; take the exact contents from the enclosed instructions.
The LCAC is a modern air-cushion landing craft of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), derived from the American type. It moves on a cushion of air over water and over land alike, so it can drive straight onto a beach, and it carries vehicles and cargo from amphibious ships to the shore. Thanks to the air cushion it reaches high speed and does not depend on the depth of the water near the coast.
Mind the flexible skirt around the hull and glue it so that the model sits level on its base. Fix the photo-etched parts (railings and fine grilles) with super glue. Glue with liquid cement for plastic and clean up the deck joints. Dark naval shades of the hull with prominent amphibious markings work well for painting; light wear on the edges and restrained washes will give it a technical, in-service look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
