This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the Tu-95MS strategic bomber in 1:144 scale from Zvezda. Even in this smaller scale it is a sizeable model — the Tu-95 is among the largest turboprop aircraft in the world, so the finished kit has a respectable span and stands out even in a display case. The kit faithfully captures the long fuselage, the swept wings, the characteristic tail surfaces and above all the engine nacelles with their contra-rotating propellers.
The Tu-95 was created in the 1950s as a long-range strategic bomber, and in the modernized Tu-95MS version it serves as a carrier of cruise missiles with a long range. It is powered by four powerful NK-12 turboprop engines with a pair of contra-rotating propellers on each nacelle, and it is these that give the aircraft its famous deep, penetrating sound. The machine remains in active service after decades and is one of the icons of the Cold War and of long-range aviation today.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Pay attention to the fit of the contra-rotating propellers and to their orientation — they are the visual centerpiece of the model. Sand the large fuselage and wing areas before painting and lay down a primer so that the final metallic or gray finish comes out evenly. On a model this large it pays to paint with an airbrush and to shade the panels gently. Finish by unifying the surface with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
