A flagship injection-molded kit from the manufacturer Trumpeter in 1:200. The package contains more than 1280 parts, a one-piece hull, subdivided superstructures and decks with a fine surface, masts, lifeboats, clear parts, photo-etched sheet (railings, ladders and more), a metal anchor chain, a stand and, the main thing, an LED lighting set powered through USB. Lit windows and decks make the model a striking piece that works after dark as well. Do reckon with the fact that the power source (a USB power bank or a charger) is not included in the package and has to be obtained separately. And above all: the finished model measures roughly 1.34 meters. This is not a model for a bookshelf, but for a large display case or a long shelf. Please measure the space beforehand.
R.M.S. Titanic was a British ocean liner, at the time of her launch one of the largest moving structures that man had ever built. She set out on her first voyage from Southampton to New York and on the night of April 14 to 15, 1912 she struck an iceberg in the north Atlantic. The impact breached the hull in several forward compartments, the ship sank in under three hours and more than 1500 people died, among other reasons because there were not enough lifeboats on board for everyone. The disaster led to a fundamental tightening of maritime safety regulations. The silhouette with four funnels, the last of which was only a dummy for ventilation, is among the best known in the history of shipping.
This is a long-term project, not a weekend build. The most important thing is to plan the lighting in advance: work out the LEDs, the wires and their routing before you close up the hull and the decks, because afterwards there is no way back inside. It is a good idea to blacken the hull from the inside or to spray it with an opaque paint, so that the light does not shine through the plastic where it should not. Test the whole lighting circuit before you glue it shut. Glue the photo-etched railings with cyanoacrylate glue only after the deck has been painted. Bring the decks out with a dark wash that runs into the seams between the planks. A model this large deserves firm mounting on the stand and, because of dust, a display case without question.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
