The Escort Mk1 is the first generation of the compact Ford from the turn of the 1960s and 1970s: a short, light car with round headlights and rear-wheel drive. The RS1600 version was its sporting peak. Under the hood it had an inline four-cylinder engine with a sixteen-valve head, and it was exactly the combination of low weight, simple construction and a flexible engine that made the little Escort one of the most successful competition cars of its day.
The car is small, so even in 1:24 scale the model stays slim and fits comfortably into a display case beside larger bodies. Its shape is nonetheless so recognizable that it is identified at a glance. For builders of competition cars it offers a rewarding subject for a period interior layout and for the wear on the wheel arches and sills that goes with competition use.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Cut the parts off with a sharp blade, sand down the excess material and join the parts with a cement intended for plastic models. Sand the body finely before spraying, because on a single-color car every irregularity shows; apply the paint in several light coats and let it cure. Finish the interior and the chassis before you join the body to the floor. Fit the glazing and the headlights last and glue them with a cement that will not fog the plastic.
The kit is intended for anyone interested in classic European cars and in competition cars of the 1970s. Paints, glue and other modeling supplies are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise; the exact contents and the recommended sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
