The Mercedes-Benz MB 2238 is a heavy three-axle truck with 6x4 drive. The towing body was developed for recovering and towing away broken-down or crashed heavy vehicles. The key element is the rear crane, able to lift the towed vehicle, complemented by a row of stowage lockers for tools and recovery equipment. Recovery trucks are among the most eye-catching machines on the road: they combine power, a massive body and a great many working details.
Trucks in 1:24 scale are a modeling discipline of their own, different from military models or cars. A number of modelers build them as so-called show trucks, with the emphasis on gloss, chrome and a clean finish. Start with the frame and the chassis; they carry a lot of parts and they set the geometry of the whole model.
Watch out for the chromed parts: ordinary polystyrene cement does not hold on chrome. Scrape the chrome off where the joint goes, or strip the part and spray it again. Rubber tires cannot be glued with cement for plastic; use super glue. Spray the body and the cab with a gloss paint over a well-sanded and primed base; a clear coat over the decals will deepen the gloss. If you want a realistic working look, a wrecker will take a fine soiling as well: dust, grease and traces of work around the body.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
