A masking set for spraying the camouflage in the Type A variant on a model of the Supermarine Spitfire aircraft in 1:24 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire is the best known British fighter of the Second World War, recognizable at first sight by its elliptical wing. British machines wore a two-color camouflage from above, which was drawn according to a prescribed pattern, and that pattern existed in two mirror-image forms. The designation Type A refers to one of them, so the layout of the fields on a model will not be random but will match a particular prescribed variant.
A large scale is merciless to a modeler. The area of the wing is such that every hesitation in the outline of a camouflage field is visible, and cutting shapes out of tape over such an extensive area is a whole evening of work with an uncertain ending. Pre-cut masks give the outline its shape in advance and both halves of a model thus come out in agreement.
Before masking, the model must be dry, clean and degreased. Go from the lighter tone to the darker one: spray the light color over the whole area, let it dry properly and only then attach the masks and spray the second tone. Press the elements down around their whole perimeter and spray in thin coats perpendicular to the surface. If you want the soft transition that machines sprayed in the field had, lift the edge of a mask with a thin spacer. Remove the masks once the paint is dry to the touch and pull them at an angle along the surface, not perpendicularly upward.
The masking films alone are supplied. Paints, thinner and other modeling material are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
