A photo-etched detail set for the instrument panel of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1a/Vb fighter in 1:24 scale from Airscale. This is not an aircraft kit but a cockpit accessory that replaces the simplified instrument panel from the plastic kit. The set brings together multi-layer photo-etched metal with waterslide decals for the dials and with clear film simulating the instrument glass, so the finished panel looks realistic and three-dimensional.
The Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter with a characteristic elliptical wing and a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The Mk.I version made its name in the Battle of Britain, and the later Mk.Vb carried a pair of 20 mm cannon and served in large numbers in 1941 and 1942. The cockpit of both versions had the typical British instrument layout that this set reproduces faithfully.
Separate the etched parts carefully and line them up according to the enclosed instructions; glue them with cyanoacrylate (super glue) and work with tweezers. Lay the dial decals onto the etched openings and, once dry, go over them with a drop of gloss varnish, which imitates the glass of the instrument. Paint the metal surfaces in a black or dark gray cockpit color before you apply the decals.
This is a detail set, not an aircraft model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
