An injection-molded plastic kit of the classic American long-haul tractor International Transtar CO-4070A in 1:25 scale from AMT. It is an extensive set with a higher level of difficulty: it holds chrome-plated parts, soft rubber tires and water-slide decals. The model has a tilting cab with the engine exposed and steerable front wheels, so what you end up with is a full-blooded showpiece of an American truck of the 1970s.
The Transtar was one of the typical cabover tractors, that is the layout with the cab seated above the engine, which allowed a shorter overall length of the rig. This concept was popular with long-haul hauliers in the USA and the trucks were built in many color schemes and company liveries. The cab with a sleeper section served drivers on long runs across the continent.
Use thin modeling cement on the plastic parts and glue the chrome-plated parts with cyanoacrylate after scraping the plating off at the joint. Prime the body and spray it with an airbrush, then add a gloss coat under the decals and any weathering. The engine and the chassis come to life with extra painting and gentle accenting of the detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
