This set by Reskit holds a pair of 3D printed AN/ALQ-87 electronic warfare pods in the late form. They are hung on a pylon of a finished aircraft model; the types given with the set are the F-4, the F-111 and the AC-130. The manufacturer has the early form of the same pod as a separate item, so a choice can be made by the machine and the period you are building.
The AN/ALQ-87 is one of the American podded electronic warfare systems from the period of the war in Southeast Asia. Fighters and gunships alike carried it, and the pod formed part of their protection. The late form differs from the early one in shape, which shows clearly on a model in a large scale, and that is why both versions are sold separately.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, otherwise the primer holds less well. Cut the print supports away with a saw as close to the part as possible, level the surface with a file and do the sanding wet with your airways protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; a gel version makes it easier to line the pod up with the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. Paint the pods separately from the airframe and fit them only afterward, as you then reach the underside more easily.
