A relief decal printed in color for the cockpit, not a model of an aircraft. The instrument panel, the side consoles, the seats and the seat belts are printed with raised three-dimensional detail and with colors straight from the factory, so they replace laborious painting and photo-etched parts. The set is shaped for the large plastic kit of the B-25J Mitchell medium bomber in the Gun nose version (a solid, unglazed nose fitted with machine guns) in 1:32 scale from HK Models.

The real subject

The North American B-25 Mitchell was an American twin-engined medium bomber of the Second World War, famous among other things for the raid on Tokyo in 1942. The version with the so-called Gun nose had a solid nose fitted with a battery of machine guns for forward fire and attacks on ground and naval targets.

Application

• First sand the matching plastic cockpit parts smooth: the 3D decal goes straight onto them.
• Separate the feature from the carrier paper with tweezers (with some sets a brief soak helps) and lay it in place. A brief soak is enough, and a decal softener would damage the printed resin, so leave it out.
• Press it down gently so that the relief settles into the surface; the small parts call for calm and a steady hand.
• The procedure suits more advanced modelers.
