1:32 D-704 Buddy air refueling store (early) is an accessory representing an external pod for refueling in flight, in its early form.

The accessory represents an external device thanks to which an ordinary combat aircraft became a flying tanker for one sortie. The item describes the early form, which differs from the later versions in details of shape. The 1:32 scale allows even small features on the skin of the pod to be rendered legibly.
The fuel is passed across by the probe and drogue method: a hose ending in a stabilizing drogue is run out from the tail of the pod, and the receiving aircraft guides its probe into it. At the front a small ram-air turbine turns and drives the reeling mechanism. It is precisely this turbine that makes the pod an immediately recognizable element on a model.
Plan the extended hose only after weighing up how the model will be displayed, because it is fragile in itself and suffers when a display case is handled. Try the transition between the pod and the pylon dry. In color the device usually kept to the shades of the underside of the fuselage, and crisp markings and warning stripes then add to the credibility.
