A resin cockpit set for a model of the American Douglas A-1J Skyraider attack aircraft in 1:32 scale from the Czech maker Aires. It replaces the pilot's station from the kit with a detailed casting with modeled instruments, side consoles and structure. In 1:32 scale the cockpit is one of the first places a viewer looks when the canopy is open, so the difference from the basic plastic is clearly visible. It is not a model of the aircraft.
The A-1J, formerly designated AD-7, was the last production version of the Skyraider. It was a single-seat attack aircraft with a piston radial engine that came too late for the Second World War but proved itself in Korea and in Vietnam. The cockpit was simple and roomy compared with jet machines, with a good view over the long nose. It was its long endurance over the battle area and its large load that made it a valuable machine for supporting ground troops.
Wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the face with abrasive paper, protecting your breathing. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. Spray the cockpit in the base shade, draw out the edges with a dry brush and pick out the recesses with a dark wash.
