Aires 1:48 Mil Mi-8MT / Mi-17 - pylons is a resin set of side pylons for a model of the transport and armed helicopter in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the helicopter, but an accessory replacing the plastic parts.

A resin set of side pylons, that is of the racks on which the Mi-8MT helicopter and its export variant the Mi-17 carry their armament and additional equipment. The scale is 1:48 and the manufacturer is the Czech firm Aires. The set replaces the plastic parts from a kit and aims at modelers who are bothered that the pylons out of the box tend to be thicker and more softly rendered than they look in reality.
The Mi-8 is among the most widespread helicopters in the world. The Mi-8MT version received more powerful engines, which markedly improved its performance at altitude and in heat, and under the designation Mi-17 it was sold for export. The machine serves in transport, cargo and armed roles, and it is precisely the side pylons that decide what a particular helicopter looks like: bare pylons, pylons with rocket pods or with other equipment give every machine a different silhouette. Given the number of users, the fit varies from one example to another, which is an opportunity for a builder to build something other than everyone else does.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface with a file. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Before gluing, compare both sides of the fuselage and mark the position of the pylons so that they come out symmetrical, otherwise asymmetry on a finished model catches the eye at once. They are glued with super glue, which is helped by a slightly roughened seating surface. Paint the pylons separately from the fuselage and fit them only after the base coat; that way you reach more easily with a brush and an airbrush into places a pylon would otherwise shade.
The set is supplied unpainted, as resin castings for altering a model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
