The real subject

The F-35 Lightning II is an American single-engine combat aircraft which, in its three versions, has become one of the most widespread types of our day. The exhaust nozzle is one of the most conspicuous places on its whole airframe: the assembly of long segmented petals takes on heat colors in service and its shape differs markedly from older aircraft. It is exactly here that a plastic kit tends to be simplified most, because the inside of the nozzle is hard to produce from a mold.

What the set contains

The set brings a replacement exhaust nozzle in 1:32 scale for the A and C versions, as the name states, and is worked out for the Italeri kit. The part adds the depth and the division that tell most to the eye on an exhaust section.

Building and painting tips

The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary cement for plastic models does not work on them. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and with epoxy on larger areas. Cut away any excess material and traces of production with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand what is left. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and degrease them, or the paint will not hold. The nozzle works well painted in shades of heat-tinted metal with a gradual transition toward the rim and finished with a light dry brush. Precise instructions for assembly and for any work on the fuselage are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
