An arresting hook is a folding hook under the rear of the aircraft. On landing aboard a carrier, a carrier-borne machine uses it to catch the tensioned arrestor wire and comes to a sharp stop over a short distance. The F-4 Phantom served in large numbers with the Navy, so the hook is a typical feature of a whole range of versions. A resin casting is thinner and more accurate in shape than a hook made of plastic.
Before gluing, wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and clear it of the mold release agent from the casting. Cut off the casting block with a sharp tool and work carefully with the fine hook, so as not to break it. Glue it exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Choosing the right version is crucial: this part belongs with aftermarket tail parts, and the version for the plastic tail from the kit is a separate one, so a mix-up can mean that the hook will not match in shape.
