An injection-molded plastic kit of the night variant of the American carrier fighter Grumman Hellcat in 1:32 scale. For this rugged machine 1:32 is a rewarding scale: the finished model has striking mass and still fits into a display case. It is made by Trumpeter.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was the main carrier fighter of the US Navy in the second half of the war in the Pacific. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine and carried six heavy machine guns in the wings. The F6F-3N version came about by adapting the fighter for night combat: it received a radar in a pod on the right wing, which made it possible to direct an attack without sight of the target. Night fighter units with these machines operated from aircraft carriers and from land bases, and their main task was to break up night raids and reconnaissance flights over the task force.
The radar pod on the wing is the recognition mark of the version, so seat it precisely and fill the joint carefully. Finish the inside of the cockpit and the landing gear bays before closing the fuselage. The dark navy blue finish easily swallows detail, so after the base coat lighten the panel areas and pick the lines out with a thin wash. Prepare a gloss base under the decals and even the surface out at the end with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
