The GBU-24 belongs to the Paveway III family of laser-guided munitions: a guidance head with a sensor and folding forward canards are attached to the body of the bomb, with large deployable stabilizing surfaces at the rear. The set is distinguished by the version designation in parentheses; exactly how the individual versions differ in the casting is not stated here.
Carried stores tend to be the most demanding part of a build in large scales, because every inaccuracy is visible close up. The long thin surfaces of a stabilizer are hard to cast in an injection mold without sink marks, and a parting line always runs across them. A resin version allows finer edges to the canards and a cleaner shape to the guidance head. The two pieces in the package match a symmetrical load under both halves of the wing or under the fuselage.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry thoroughly. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the face wet. Check the stabilizing surfaces against the light to see whether they are warped; warm water will return them to true. The bomb is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue, and with a heavier casting it pays to drill and glue a short wire pin into the mounting point. It is painted over a primer, usually in a uniform munition body shade, onto which a thin wash is run into the engraved lines and fine chipping added on the edges.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
