This is an aftermarket accessory in resin, not a kit in its own right. According to the name the package contains two GBU-31 bombs in 1:32 scale and serves to arm a model of a modern combat aircraft, on the pylons under the wing or as part of a scene with ground crew and handling equipment. The casting holds the sharp edges of the tail surfaces and the surface texture that the injection mold of a base kit usually cannot render.
The GBU-31 belongs to the JDAM family. It is not a bomb in itself but a kit of a guidance tail module and side strakes that is fitted to a conventional two thousand pound aircraft bomb and turns it into a weapon guided by satellite and inertial systems. It is precisely the angular tail module and the conspicuous side strakes that make the GBU-31 instantly recognizable on a model, and it is at the same time a shape that is difficult to mold in plastic.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, as mold release residue would otherwise reliably prevent paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter run gradually, and never break them off with nippers. They are sanded wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate; ordinary cement for plastic does not bite into resin. Apply primer before painting; modern aircraft munitions tend to be in a light gray tone with colored bands that mark the type of filling, and a final fine wash brings out the engraved seams.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
