Responsibility details are not available.
A large plastic kit of the Italian fighter Macchi C.205 Veltro in the striking 1:32 scale. Italeri built it on reworked tooling and added elements that elsewhere tend to be paid-for accessories: a richly detailed cockpit with 3D instrument decals, photo-etch for the engine, the flaps, the cockpit and small details, a finely worked out engine and nose gun bay, landing gear with optional bay covers, movable ailerons and elevators, flaps that can be shown open or closed, and masking films for the canopy and the wheels. Two sets of decals are enclosed, markings for eight machines and a separate sheet of exhaust smoke rings, plus a color guide to painting and markings. The finished model is roughly 27.6 cm long. The difficulty is the highest, that is level 5.
The Veltro, meaning greyhound, was the best Italian fighter of the Second World War. It came about when the powerful license-built German Daimler-Benz DB 605 inverted V12 was fitted into the proven airframe of the earlier C.202, and the machine at once matched the Allied and German fighters of the day in performance. It reached a speed of around 640 km/h and carried a pair of 12.7 mm machine guns supplemented by two 20 mm cannons in the wing. It entered service at the beginning of 1943 and, after the Italian armistice, flew both with the air force of the Italian Social Republic and with the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force on the Allied side. It was built only in small numbers, though, so for all its qualities it never managed to influence the course of the fighting.
1:32 scale is a gift and an obligation. You get a large, impressive model with room for detail, but at the same time in 1:32 absolutely every mistake shows: a joint not sanded enough, the mark of abrasive paper, dust in the finish. Count also on the finished machine taking up a fair amount of room in a display case. Glue the plastic with thin capillary cement and the photo-etch and fine metal parts with super glue. Always lay down a primer before painting; it evens the surface out and reveals flaws before the color hides them. Because of the large areas an airbrush is practically a necessity; leave the hand brush for the small things. The enclosed masks markedly simplify the work on the canopy and the wheels. Lay the decals onto a gloss coat and, once dry, go over them with a flat or satin coat according to the look you want. Apply the smoke rings behind the exhausts exactly according to the enclosed instructions; on a large model they show a great deal.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
