This is not a model of an aircraft, but a resin detail set — replacement undercarriage wheels for a Phantom II model in 1:32 scale. On injection-molded kits the wheels tend to be split into halves, so once glued a seam is left right on the centerline of the tire and both the tread and the relief of the hub are only hinted at. A resin casting solves that problem: the tire is in one piece and with a crisply rendered surface. In the large 1:32 scale the difference is clearly apparent, because on the Phantom the wheels are among the prominent and clearly visible details.
The F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engine two-seat aircraft with a cranked wing with dihedral on the outer panels and with anhedral horizontal tail surfaces. According to the name, the set is intended for the land-based air force versions F-4C, F-4D, F-4E and the German F-4F — these differ from the naval versions among other things precisely in the arrangement and the dimensions of the main undercarriage wheels, so the set cannot be swapped between the version groups.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent first, so that any release agent residue on which paint will not hold disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic has no effect on it. Prime before painting; tires look more convincing in a dark gray shade than in pure black and it is worth dusting them lightly with pigment at the end.
