This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter represents the German Me 262 B-1a/U1 jet night fighter in the large 1:32 scale. The model offers richly detailed parts and a detailed tandem cockpit; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Me 262 B-1a/U1 was created by converting the two-seat Me 262 trainer into a night fighter. Airborne radar and search equipment was added behind the instructor's second seat and the aircraft carried drop tanks. These machines were used at the end of the war with an experimental night fighter unit and are among the most interesting chapters of early jet aviation.
Build and paint the tandem cockpit and the interior before you close the fuselage. The characteristic radar antennas on the nose need careful handling. Apply a primer before painting, spray the surfaces with an airbrush, and seat belts are a welcome addition for extra realism.
