At Revell, Model Set is a package into which the manufacturer adds basic paints and accessories for building besides the kit itself, so a buyer does not have to buy everything separately. Thanks to the large scale, the glazed cabin and the lattice tail boom come out markedly better on the model than on smaller helicopters.
The Alouette II is a French light helicopter from the middle of the 1950s and one of the first machines put into series production with a turboshaft engine. The turbine gave it higher performance at lower weight than the piston helicopters of the day, which was useful above all in the mountains and when working at high altitude. The machine made its mark as a liaison, observation, training and rescue aircraft and spread to dozens of countries. Its lightweight construction is characteristic: a spherical glazed cabin, an openly framed tail section and an exposed powerplant.
Most of the impression of a finished model comes from the glazing and the interior, so finish and paint the cabin before you close it up, and mask the clear parts with tape cut into strips rather than with a liquid mask. The lattice boom has a lot of thin parts, on which it pays to remove the sprue gates carefully and to sand only once a joint has dried. Single-color finishes are brought to life by discreet emphasis on the panel seams and light dusting of the lower fuselage.
